Roma have brought in some high-profile players, but they want to make money in the transfer window. They have already cashed out €34m and should be able to earn more before the deadline.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport points out, Roma have so far acquired Zecki Celic from Lille for €7M. Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic and Mile Svila all arrived on free transfers. Georginio Wijnaldum joined Roma with an €8m loan option to buy. Jose Mourinho has been the key in changing strategies in many cases.
Roma are unlikely to pay more in the transfer market. Their ultimate target is Andrea Belotti who is without a team and a defender. It’s either Dan Axel Zagadoo or someone else on loan. The capital side wants to sell a few outcasts to further increase their revenues.
They have already bought Florenzi from Milan for €2M, Robin Olsen from West Ham United for a €3.5M move, and Jordan Veretout from Marseille for €11M. Les Phoceens have given Paolo Lopez and Cengiz Under €20M. They have raised a total of €1.5M for Tommaso Milanese, Daniel Fuzato and Joel Volkeling Persson. Carles Perez and Gonzalo Villar opted to leave on loan. plenty of fringe players have been cut: Justin Kluivert, Amadou Diwara and Ricardo Calafiori are thought to be among the top earners.
Tiago Pinto is good at resizing resources and correcting previous mistakes. After a grand 2021, the ownership has clearly tightened its belt. But that doesn’t mean the squad needs to be weakened. Similar to Juventus, they are clearly operating within a budget, but they are not as chatty as Inter.
